The main focus of Barré is to offer educational assistance for ethnic minority children in Kontum, South Vietnam.
The current situation lies in that there is severe education inequity in Vietnam, whereby not every child has the privilege of receiving his or her basic education due to the inability among ethnic minorities to speak Vietnamese. The lack of opportunities and available resources serve as barriers in helping these children break out of the poverty cycle.
How can we help?
Rather than offering pure monetary help, we have developed a 10 year programme aimed at first building capacity, laying strong foundations among the locals and finally, reaching out to the hundreds of impoverished children in the remote villages of Kontum. Our programme is run in 4 phases.
Ultimately, we hope to be able to assist the KMF in offering educational opportunities for the children, especially in terms of learning and speaking Vietnamese and English. We believe that this will aid them in their bid to enter the public school system and jobs in the future when they graduate and put them at a positive advantage. When we leave the area, we want to be able to leave assured that they are able to build on strong foundations that will last. To ensure this, we have adopted a patient, sustainable approach to our work.
